In this special column called the “TLC x Fempreneurs Series”, we will be featuring inspiring Female Entrepreneurs (Fempreneurs) in short. You will be able to have a sneak peek at their mindsets and their daily habits.
Believe in the power of community. On some days when you feel big goals are impossible, or when you feel like giving up, you need to lean on your like-minded community. You can even “borrow” motivation, and in turn “return” with your own inspiring stories to pay it forward.
Meet Lynn Yap (Clynn By Nature)
Tell us a little about yourself. What is your business/ brand about?
I am Lynn and I am a passionate cosmetics chemist and researcher with more than 25 years of experience in the development of new technologies and formulations. My commitment to environmental sustainability, product safety, and health and wellness, especially in personal hygiene and anti-aging, has resulted in several innovative products. I filed a record of invention in hair care in 1999 and a global patent in personal cleansing in 2010. My DHT-blocking Scalp Tonic by Clynn By Nature received the Made in Singapore Award for Innovation in 2018. I am also a mother of three grown-up sons.
What got you started on your business?
Before you started your business, what did you do on a full-time basis?
I have served as a cosmetic chemist for several prestigious multinational companies, specializing in cosmetic ingredients. My career started with technology-oriented positions and later grew to include both technological and commercial duties across the Asia Pacific region. In my commercial capacities, I earned accolades such as the “Million-dollar Sales Award for Asia Pacific” and the “Best Distributor SEA Award.” Prior to these achievements, I devoted a decade to product development and project engineering at Singapore Technologies.
What were some difficulties you faced in your life and how did you overcome them?
Who inspires you?
My maternal grandma.
What excites you most about your industry?
Beauty, confidence, love, and good health.
What is your vision / personal motto?
I am a formulator. I remain neutral. I seek balance. I aim for the optimal solution.
What have you learned recently that you hope the other ladies can take back?
Launching your own business can be demanding on your health. It’s important to establish a consistent exercise routine.
What do you do in your free time as self care? How do you unwind?
Exercise, light reading, and watch a movie.
How do you think you can help ladies to feel confident and empowered?
Being aware of my passion from a young age has been a blessing. Deep self-awareness provides a sense of purpose, confidence, and empowerment. My goal is to assist women in discovering their passions.
What is one thing you are grateful for?
My overseas scholarship. My family is always so supportive.
