In this special column called the “TLC x Fempreneurs Series”, we will be featuring inspiring Female Entrepreneurs (Fempreneurs) in short. You will be able to have a sneak peek at their mindsets and their daily habits.

Believe in the power of community. On some days when you feel big goals are impossible, or when you feel like giving up, you need to lean on your like-minded community. You can even “borrow” motivation, and in turn “return” with your own inspiring stories to pay it forward.

Fempreneur Janet Ng, Founder of The Red Wedding

Tell us a little about yourself. What is your business/ brand about?

This is Janet, Founder of The Red Wedding. Established in 2007 driven by my passion and desire to preserve one of the unique traditions of the Chinese culture, as well as to bring joy to those around me.

The Red Wedding specializes in the rental and sale of traditional Chinese wedding attires – Qun Kua and Ma Kua.

What got you started on your business?

When I was planning for my own wedding back in early 2000, I realized that it was very difficult to obtain a good quality traditional Chinese wedding outfit at a price that doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg!

Also, I have a soft spot for anything oriental, especially stuffs with embroideries, dragon motifs etc.

So you can say it is both my passion and desire to preserve one of the unique traditions of the Chinese wedding culture, as well as to bring joy to those around me.

Before you started your business, what did you do on a full-time basis?

I started off my career in the advertising industry, did B2C marketing and also office management.

What were some difficulties you faced in your life and how did you overcome them?

Confronting breast cancer head-on and enduring the challenges of chemotherapy was a defining chapter in my life.

Instead of viewing it as a setback, I embraced it as an opportunity for personal growth and empowerment. Through self-care, a proactive mindset, and the invaluable support of loved ones, I discover a newfound appreciation for life’s resilience and the strength within myself.

Who inspires you?

Anyone who picks themselves up after a failure!

What excites you most about your industry?

What excites me about the wedding industry is not just celebrating love and joy but also preserving a unique Chinese cultural tradition. It’s a joyous journey where I contribute to the continuation of meaningful customs, bringing happiness to couples and their families.

What is your vision / personal motto?

Do unto others what you want others to do unto you.
