In this special column called the “TLC x Fempreneurs Series”, we will be featuring inspiring Female Entrepreneurs (Fempreneurs) in short. You will be able to have a sneak peek at their mindsets and their daily habits.
Believe in the power of community. On some days when you feel big goals are impossible, or when you feel like giving up, you need to lean on your like-minded community. You can even “borrow” motivation, and in turn “return” with your own inspiring stories to pay it forward.
Meet Natalie Wong (Natalie Wong Photography)
Tell us a little about yourself. What is your business/ brand about?
I am Natalie, a Singaporean girl living her childhood dream of being a photographer. Ever since I was young, photography has been my strong interest. Even today photography is still something I very much love and always experiment with.
Natalie Wong Photography is your bespoke photo services catering to each of our clients and couples’ vision. We offer the full works and seamless experience from wedding photography, family photography, fashion photography, and portrait photography services.
What got you started on your business?
To be honest, I’d never thought of starting my own business. Neither did I feel adequate since I did not have any business background. However, a big epiphany made me realise that it was time for me to start my own business, that’s how I took the leap of faith.
Before you started your business, what did you do on a full-time basis?
Photography! Before I started my business, I was already working in this industry. I was doing photography full time, working under other companies.
What were some difficulties you faced in your life and how did you overcome them?
One incident that left a huge impact on me was when I lost my equipment overseas as my rented car was broken into! It was about slightly over $8,000 in total. Not only was my bread and butter taken away, I incurred additional expenses getting new gear. Coming from safe Singapore, this was definitely a huge shock to me.
However, the damage was already done and I had to accept what happened. The solution? Put my head down and continue working until all losses were recovered.
Who inspires you?
I find the stories of ordinary peoples’ achieving success (whether big or mini) and overcoming their struggles very inspiring. Just like photography, making an ordinary scene an extraordinary shot.
What excites you most about your industry?
The amount of creativity excites me the most in the photography industry.
What is your vision / personal motto?
Creating! The amount and ability to use my creativity to capture significant moments in a snapshot evoking strong emotions is what makes my endorphins up! Some think it’s a challenge, but I find it very enjoyable.
What have you learned recently that you hope the other ladies can take back?
I’ve learnt to surround myself with good individuals who inspire me.
As Fempreneurs, the journey is sometimes lonely. Being in a community of inspiring individuals encourages me immensely. It’s like fuel to engine giving the drive and determination to push oneself to achieve their own goals against all odds.
How do you think you can help ladies to feel confident and empowered?
– Having positive self-talks and removing negativity in your head.
– Educating yourself; a growth mindset is important. It is important to upgrade yourself at any age.
– Being self-assured. Everyone is unique and should embrace their own unique skillset and journey.
– Stay patient on bad days and trust that the journey will work for good.
What is one thing you are grateful for?
I am grateful for my gift of photography. I am grateful for the support of my friends, family and clients who helped turn my passion and childhood dream into a reality.
