In this special column called the “TLC x Fempreneurs Series”, we will be featuring inspiring Female Entrepreneurs (Fempreneurs) in short. You will be able to have a sneak peek at their mindsets and their daily habits.
Believe in the power of community. On some days when you feel big goals are impossible, or when you feel like giving up, you need to lean on your like-minded community. You can even “borrow” motivation, and in turn “return” with your own inspiring stories to pay it forward.
Meet Tiffany Soh (GOFY)
Tell us a little about yourself. What is your business/ brand about?
GOFY is an independent Singapore-grown creative community that discovers, celebrates, and unites artists from the Southeast Asian region. Through their exhibitions, infiltrations, and other initiatives, GOFY aims to build a community of artists, advocates, and collaborators who champion Southeast Asia’s diverse and multi-talented creative scene.
As GOFY’s Co-Founder and Curator, I work closely with our network of emerging artists and partners and conceptualize our projects. Our current exhibition, “For Art’s Sake 2023”, presents 80 artworks at 21 local businesses across Singapore, bringing the gallery to the people.
What got you started on your business?
My passion for local culture fuels my mission to cultivate a more inclusive creative community in both Singapore and the region, with a strong focus on empowering the youth.
Before you started your business, what did you do on a full-time basis?
I was a Creative Producer for Alice, a video production agency.
What were some difficulties you faced in your life and how did you overcome them?
As a young creative, I frequently grapple with imposter syndrome as oftentimes others in the visual arts industry can still have a traditional mindset towards what art is and how it should be presented. I overcome this by gaining more confidence when I speak to the artists I work with, who greatly appreciate what GOFY does and our mission to disrupt the art industry.
Who inspires you?
I am constantly inspired by GOFY’s close network of talented artists from around SEA, who produce such amazing work that needs to be seen by more people.
What excites you most about your industry?
That there are so many incredibly talented artists out there who need support or even just a platform to showcase their work to the world and I am here to help them!
What is your vision / personal motto?
My vision is to redefine how visual arts can be presented to the public – to take it out of the white cube and meld it with our daily lives, such that art can be appreciated anywhere and anytime.
Do you have any words of advice for other ladies who are starting their businesses/ starting to pursue their dreams?
Embrace your uniqueness: Your perspective and experiences as a woman in South East Asia can be your greatest assets.
What have you learned recently that you hope the other ladies can take back?
Never be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
How do you think you can help ladies to feel confident and empowered?
Trust in yourself and be kind to yourself! Don’t be too hard on your mistakes or setbacks!
What is one thing you are grateful for?
I am very grateful for the constant support from our community of artists and partners, who believe in GOFY’s mission to make arts accessible to all.
What do you do in your free time as self-care? How do you unwind?
I enjoy playing with my 2 cats and watching movies! I also enjoy working out and rock climbing.
Let us know more about what you do!
GOFY champions SEA’s creativity and its diverse voices and encourages more people to discover urban art from this unique region. We are a firm believer in bringing art closer to the people by weaving it in as an element of daily life. Whether you’re an art-lover or simply want to add some boldness to your life, support our thriving Southeast Asian creative community with every purchase of our collectible art pieces.
