Meet Larissa Tan (Curious Creatures)

Tell us a little about yourself. What is your business/ brand about?

I’m a foodie and a cat mom to 4 cats.

Curious Creatures is a jewelry brand and much more. We design demi-fine and fine jewelry for every occasion and life moment, both big and small. Our passion lies in crafting exquisite jewelry that seamlessly becomes a part of your everyday life. We believe in the beauty of personal jewelry, where each piece is a reflection of your unique style, spirit, and individuality, rather than bold statements. We popularised the concept of permanent jewelry in Singapore and recently introduced luxury piercing to our growing range of jewelry offerings available in-store.

What got you started on your business? 

There was no big light bulb moment, I started Curious Creatures as a place for creative release and exploration of ideas. It was also a platform for me to create specific jewelry pieces I wanted to wear because I couldn’t find pieces I like anywhere else.

Before you started your business, what did you do on a full-time basis?

I was a graphic designer for 4 years before spending the next 3 years in retail. Being surrounded by beautiful things in a boutique all the time I find myself dreaming of starting my own business.

What were some difficulties you faced in your life and how did you overcome them?

In the realm of business operations, a crucial choice emerges between conventional marketing practices and ethical marketing approaches. While the simpler route often involves exaggerating and aggressively promoting a product to drive higher sales, our stance invariably prioritizes the consumer’s perspective. We firmly believe that fostering trust and loyalty necessitates transparency in our dealings with customers. Our core objective revolves around cultivating enduring relationships with our clientele.

Who inspires you?

The people around me and the ones I love. They inspire me to be better and to grow every single day. It is a constant journey.

What excites you most about your industry?

The most exciting (and also daunting) thing about the jewelry industry is that it is constantly evolving. New trends often happen so quickly that we have to be able to react promptly to the changes, adopt or integrate into what we do.

What is your vision / personal motto?

Show up full. Don’t dwell on the past, and don’t daydream about the future. Focus on showing up fully and being present in the moment.

What have you learned recently that you hope the other ladies can take back?

Be respectful and support each other.

How do you think you can help ladies to feel confident and empowered?

Embracing the bravery to encounter failure and persisting until you achieve your goals.

What is one thing you are grateful for?

Our wonderful team, without them none of these can happen.

What do you do in your free time as self-care? How do you unwind?

Hug a cat, they are my best therapy, and definitely a good meal.
