In this special column called the “TLC x Fempreneurs Series”, we will be featuring inspiring Female Entrepreneurs (Fempreneurs) in short. You will be able to have a sneak peek at their mindsets and their daily habits.
Believe in the power of community. On some days when you feel big goals are impossible, or when you feel like giving up, you need to lean on your like-minded community. You can even “borrow” motivation, and in turn “return” with your own inspiring stories to pay it forward.
Meet Ong Rong Rong (The Real Sass Ladies)
Tell us a little about yourself. What is your business/ brand about?
I’m an entrepreneur and podcast host, dedicated to empowering women and discussing important topics that impact their lives. As the founder of an influencer agency, I strive to connect brands with influential women who can make a positive impact in their respective industries.
Through my podcast, The Real Sass Ladies Podcast, which you can find on Instagram @therealsassladies, I provide a platform for women to share their inspiring stories and discuss a wide range of subjects, from mental health to teenage pregnancy.
By amplifying diverse voices and experiences, we aim to uplift, educate, and inspire our listeners while fostering a supportive community. Join us as we explore the incredible journeys and triumphs of women who are making a difference in the world.
What got you started on your business?
I started my business as I understand the profound impact of gaslighting in relationships and the toll it takes on one’s mental health. As someone who has personally experienced the destructive effects of gaslighting, I am dedicated to creating a safe space where women can come together to support one another and raise awareness about this important topic. My ultimate vision is to create a community where women can find solace, strength, and solidarity.
Before you started on your business, what did you do on a full-time basis?
Before embarking on my journey as the founder of an influencer agency and podcast, I dedicated my time to working in the dynamic field of marketing on a full-time basis. This experience not only provided me with a deep understanding of marketing principles but also allowed me to harness my creative prowess in developing innovative campaigns and engaging content. The skills and knowledge gained during my marketing tenure enable me to excel in curating effective influencer collaborations and delivering captivating podcast episodes.
What were some difficulties you faced in your life and how did you overcome them?
Being an entrepreneur is an exhilarating journey filled with both triumphs and obstacles. While running a business comes with its fair share of challenges, it is precisely these hurdles that make the path of entrepreneurship incredibly rewarding. As an entrepreneur, you navigate through the ever-changing landscape of the business world, constantly adapting to market trends, technological advancements, and customer demands.
Who inspires you?
Malala Yousafzai.
What excites you most about your industry?
As the founder of my own podcast, I am driven by a deep passion for sharing empowering stories of women who have faced and conquered life’s challenges. Each episode serves as a source of inspiration and a platform for learning as I listen intently to their journeys.
What is your vision / personal motto?
Empowering Women, Inspiring Change
Do you have any words of advice for other ladies who are starting their business/ starting to pursue their dream?
In a world filled with traditional norms and societal expectations, I find myself grappling with the challenges of living in a conventional family structure. The typical path of working from 9 to 6, finding a spouse, and starting a family does not resonate with me. I have chosen to resist this social pressure and pave my own unique path.
It hasn’t been easy to swim against the current of societal expectations, but I refuse to surrender my dreams. I believe that life is too short to be spent living someone else’s vision for me. I am determined to forge my own path, embracing the freedom to make choices that resonate with my authentic self.
So, to all those who may find themselves in a similar struggle, I encourage you to stay strong and persevere. Don’t be disheartened by the pressures to conform. Instead, nurture your dreams, follow your passions, and never underestimate the transformative power of kindness. Remember, this is our one chance at life, and it’s up to us to make it extraordinary.
What have you learnt recently that you hope the other ladies can take back?
From triumphing over adversity to finding strength in vulnerability, these women demonstrate the remarkable resilience and tenacity that lies within all of us. It is an honor to amplify these voices and contribute to a community where women’s stories are celebrated, shared, and cherished. Together, we can create a powerful network of support and encouragement, fostering a world where every woman’s voice is heard and her experiences serve as a catalyst for positive change.
How do you think you can help ladies to feel confident and empowered?
I am dedicated to empowering women and fostering their confidence by providing a safe space for them to share their experiences. I strongly believe that by encouraging women to voice their stories of overcoming challenges through The Real Sass Ladies Podcast, such as family divorce, teenage pregnancy, and abusive relationships, we can inspire each other and reinforce the notion that we should unwaveringly believe in ourselves. It is my mission to ensure that no one, no matter their circumstances, allows anyone or anything to diminish their spirit. Together, we can rise above adversity and embrace our strength, resilience, and limitless potential.
What is one thing you are grateful for?
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to host my own podcast and connect with a wonderful community of 4,000 followers. It’s a privilege to have a platform where I can share my thoughts, ideas, and stories with others, and to receive their feedback and support.
But amidst this success, I’m reminded of the fundamental blessings that sometimes go unnoticed. I am grateful for the simple joys of being alive, the ability to breathe and nourish my body with food, and access to clean water—a privilege not enjoyed by everyone.
I appreciate the fact that I have a healthy and able body, enabling me to actively engage in life and pursue my passions. It’s a reminder to make the most of every opportunity, to continuously learn and grow, and to use my abilities to make a positive impact in the world.
Gratitude fills my heart as I reflect on the convergence of opportunities and privileges that have allowed me to create and share my podcast, and to embrace the gift of life itself.
What do you do in your free time as self-care? How do you unwind?
Everyone describe me as a 24/7 creative person. I like to put my ideas on a big scale. During my free time, I like to draw, listen to rock music, bake and watch old 60s movies, although I’m only in my 30s. I’m practicing Japanese Tattoo art at the moment, I find the art difficult but still learning along the way.
