Tell us a little about yourself. What is your business/brand about? 

My name is Lisa Williamson, I am a Partner at Natroshield eco-friendly cleaning products. We offer our customers a simple and effective solution to switch out their harsh chemical cleaners and disinfectants for our natural and organic non-toxic, alcohol-free solutions.

With just one change, we can protect people, pets, and the planet from an array of environmentally damaging chemicals. As Singapore is surrounded by water and our resources are so precious, it’s time to make a simple switch to nontoxic cleaning products. Our plant-based sanitizers and disinfectants have just been launched into Singapore commercial spaces- hotels, malls, private clubs, and corporate offices- in partnership with Springmount Technology Services and to the public directly via Lazada.

What got you started on your business? 

After pursuing a physically demanding and draining role running communications for Marina Bay Sands for a decade, I was forced through health reasons to reconsider my lifestyle. It was then that I made the decision to focus on a more purpose-driven life.

As I suffered 2 heart attacks and had zero work/life balance, it was important to make a 180-degree change my lifestyle to become more healthy. I first focused on my metabolic health- losing 40 kilos, changing my diet and exercise routine, and addressing my stressful environment with community support and walking meditation. I then knew I needed to make a change for both myself and the world around me.

After witnessing the constant blame-shifting for the current state of the environment at COP 26 in Glasgow- I decided I wanted to focus on one change that could make a difference in our world. I found Natroshield and its eco-friendly cleaning products in Australia and am committed to introducing this next-stage nontoxic disinfectant and sanitizer to other areas of the world.

Before you started on your business, what did you do on a full-time basis?

I’ve been in the communications business for over 30 years – 22 years in Singapore, and several years in London and the US. My focus has been a mixture of hospitality and financial IT.

What were some difficulties you faced in your life and how did you overcome them?

I believe that is answered in detail above.

What excites you most about your industry?

I am excited about the fact that companies in Singapore are taking the need to improve the whole ecosystem seriously. Whether that be employee health or environmental sustainability, businesses are making real progress in protecting our environment. Our distributor Springmount Technologies is seeing more and more commercial discussions including sustainable or eco-friendly choices. On the consumer front, eco-friendly cleaning choices are now affordable and available to everyone now.

What is your vision / personal motto?

F. Scott Fitgerald said “It’s never too late to be whoever you want to be…… I hope you live the life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.”

Do you have any words of advice for other ladies who are starting their business/ starting to pursue their dream?

Safeguard your health. You can give your business all the time it needs while taking care of yourself. Also, remember that health isn’t just physical. Your mental health is important and you need not build your dream alone. In the modern world of online connections, make the choice to humanize your network. Join industry groups that meet physically, join Lunchclubs to broaden your network, and reach out to potential mentors for a coffee. Building a community that encourages your aspirations is essential.

What have you learnt recently that you hope the other ladies can take back?

The people that accompany you on your business journey will surprise you. Your biggest supporters tend to be unexpected and the opposite is also true. Also, don’t stop yourself from being your own cheerleader. Ignore your self-critic and promote yourself as you would promote a respected colleague.

How do you think you can help ladies to feel confident and empowered?

I believe my tale can be viewed either as a cautionary tale or an inspirational tale. It depends on where the reader is in her business journey. Saying that, the Moral of the tale is singular: It is never too late to make the proper steps to change the direction of your career, your life, or the environment around you.

What is one thing you are grateful for?

My life and a little piece of it- it is privileged to be alive every day.

What do you do in your free time as self-care? How do you unwind?

I travel a lot with my role so no matter where I am, I walk outside in nature every day- mornings if possible. Seeing the sun come up, feeling the seasons of each new place, and getting my feet on the ground allows me to reconnect with my daily focus, and my health and helps me to recover from jetlag too.

Since I made my positive health and lifestyle changes, My husband and I take annual anniversary trips to walk 125 km of the Camino de Santiago in Spain. we have now walked over 500 km of the total 780 km distance. I couldn’t have done that before I made a choice to improve my health.
