Meet Julie Ng (Lookafter)

Tell us a little about yourself. What is your business/brand about? 

Hello! I’m Julie, one of the Co-Founder of a vitamin gummy brand – Lookafter. We’ve recently launched our first product – lutein eye vitamin gummy, just last year!

It’s easy to get caught up in our daily lives that we often overlook our health, especially our overworked eyes in this digital age. We hope to take an untraditional approach to health care by making it easy and entertaining, so people will enjoy it!

What got you started on your business? 

After doing LASIK, I had scarring on my eyes (vision with white patches), and took me an additional 6 months to recover from it. I do experience blurry vision and dry eyes, especially after long screen hours as well. That’s when I start to realize that I really need to look after my precious eyes which I’ve invested so much for my LASIK surgery. I did countless research to realize how much attention our overworked eyes need in this day and age.

Eye concerns are no longer age-related anymore. No matter how old you are, taking care of your eyes is one of the best things you can do for yourself!

Before you started on your business, what did you do on a full-time basis?

I was working as a marketer in the F&B and FMCG industry.

What were some difficulties you faced in your life and how did you overcome them?

Controlling my own thoughts and being the master of my mind during tough times. It’s definitely not easy to stay positive during the downs and it kinda becomes spiraling negative thoughts.

I listen to podcasts on Spotify to “brainwash” myself and gain new perspectives on things. Negative always comes with positive, cause there’s always a lesson learned from it. It’s just how you see it! We can’t always control our first thought but we can always control our second one 🙂

Who inspires you?

I don’t have anyone specific in mind, but I do get inspired by people who feel enthusiastic about their life, are driven and motivated to strive for their goals, and always point out possibilities and see things from a different angle.

What is your vision / personal motto? 

It’s all in the mind.

Do you have any word of advice for other ladies who are starting their business/ starting to pursue their dream?

Always know your purpose and objective, and know what keeps you going and excited!

How do you think you can help ladies to feel confident and empowered?

To know your intention in doing things, and also to be self-aware of your own strengths and weaknesses to improve/tap on them.

What have you learned recently that you hope the other ladies can take back?

They say that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. Surround yourself with people you admire and work towards success!

What is one thing you are grateful for?

Definitely good health.

What do you do in your free time as self-care? How do you unwind?

I usually spend time with my loved ones and I definitely love chillin’ with a good cup of coffee and people watching!
