The seventh edition of Singapore Stories dazzled the fashion world as 12 local and international designers came together to showcase 36 innovative designs, all inspired by the theme *‘Eternally Circular.’* Held on 5 October 2024, the event celebrated not just creativity but also the urgent need for sustainability in the fashion industry.

A Global Collaboration for Circular Fashion

For the first time, Singapore Stories featured a multinational roster of designers from eight countries, including Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand. With support from their respective fashion councils, these designers brought their unique interpretations of circular fashion to life on the runway.

Each designer created a mini-capsule collection of three stunning looks, demonstrating different approaches to circularity—from resource efficiency and waste reduction to upcycling and using responsible materials.

The diversity of approaches was nothing short of inspiring. Thai designer Terfah incorporated detachable elements in his designs, allowing pieces to be restyled and worn in multiple ways, extending their lifespan. Singapore’s own Esther Choy took a more sentimental route, repurposing clothing left by loved ones into new garments that weave together the past and present.

Materials were another focal point. Dars Juson from the Philippines transformed discarded bedsheets and tablecloths into stunning wedding gowns, critiquing the often wasteful wedding industry. Singaporean designer Anseina Eliza created her three looks from six kilograms of fabric scraps and over 1,000 single-use grocery bags, repurposing waste into fashion-forward designs.

Beyond design, many of the showcased looks highlighted the need for fair and equitable working conditions in the fashion industry. Singaporean designer Joanna Lim collaborated with a garment factory in Indore, India, to empower local women through fair wages and skills development, integrating their craftsmanship into her designs.
