During this COVID-19 pandemic period, majority of us including young children are spending lots of our time on small or/and big screens at home.

Are you concerned and worried of your child/ children’s eyesight?

Do you feel your eyes being strained after watching your drama or show, or surfing online and working from home via your IT gadgets and apps?

Did you know that myopia is a serious problem in Singapore?

Myopia is caused by the elongation of the eyeball and can cause more eye diseases such as:

  • Higher risk of retinal detachment
  • Increased risk of glaucoma
  • Lattice degeneration
  • Posterior vitreous detachment
  • Retinal atrophy
  • Myopic macular degeneration

In fact, by 2050, an astonishing 77% of Singapore’s population will be myopic. That’s not the end.

Singapore has one of the highest prevalence of myopia in the world. It has been an ongoing concern in Singapore where 70% of Singaporean teenagers between the ages of 11 and 18 are myopic.

Myopia typically begins in childhood, the risk of having myopia increases if both parents are myopic as well.

Childhood myopia is not uncommon in Singapore, 65% of our Primary 6 children have myopia, whereas at that same age, just 12 percent of children in Australia and about 30 percent in the UK are myopic.

Myopia or shortsightedness is a condition caused by elongation of the eye, causing light to fall in front of the retina instead of on the retina.

This causes distant objects to be blurry, however, near vision will be perfectly fine.

Certain signs and symptoms of myopia include squinting, eye strain and headache.

Try The Non-Invasive Optometric Treatment: Ortho-K

Now, you may find solutions by reducing your child’s myopia progression and regaining Spectacle-Free Vision within a week with Orthokeratology.

Orthokeratology or Ortho-K is a treatment which designed to slow down the progression of myopia and allows the patient to have glasses-free vision during the day!

How Does Ortho-K Work?

  1. Wear To Sleep

Ortho-K is the fitting of custom-designed Gas Permeable (GP) lenses that the patient will wear to sleep at night.

  2. Gently Reshapes Cornea

While the patient is asleep, the lenses gently reshape the front surface of the eyes (corneas).

  1. See Clearly The Next Day!

The patient can see clearly the next day after removing the lenses when he or she wakes up in the morning!

  1. Control Myopia Progression

Ortho-K is primarily used to correct refractive errors, or better    known as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. In      the recent years, it’s been widely used to control the progression of myopia, typically from ages 8 onwards.
