Believe in the power of community. On some days when you feel big goals are impossible, or when you feel like giving up, you need to lean on your like-minded community. You can even “borrow” motivation, and in turn “return” with your own inspiring stories to pay it forward.
In this special column called the “TLC x Fempreneurs Series”, we will be featuring inspiring Female Entrepreneurs (Fempreneurs) in short. You will be able to have a sneak peek at their mindsets and their daily habits.
Meet Grace Ng
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am Grace, co-founder and creative director of Lenicc Pte Ltd. It is an eyewear brand which specialises in creating stylish medically-refined sunglasses for ladies. The essence of our brand mission is to empower new-age ladies with confidence, proper eye care protection knowledge and personalised style. We would like to equip ladies of today with the best ‘sunscreen‘ for their eyes!
I was working in the retail industry for about 13 years: front-end, back-end and the bridge between the two. I left the industry as a manager who heads the retail for mid high-end international and Asian brands. I had a few stints with law firms (IP and trademark) and chemistry industry.
What got you started on your business?
There are a few pain points to mention:
1) I don’t have much of a nose bridge to start with so getting a pair of premium acetate sunglasses was a challenge.
2) I have a soft spot for personalisation: I do that for my jewelry and skincare, to cater to my own personal needs and fit my lifestyle.
3) I sink into the belief that darker lens is better – Apparently it’s not totally true. It depends on the type of material and the appropriate coatings for the lens.
4) I suffered from constant headaches and sometimes dizziness after using a pair of sunglasses for a long time.
Hence, Lenicc Eyewear was born.
What were some difficulties you faced in your life and how did you overcome them?
I struggled to get Lenicc recognised by fashionistas currently. Many ladies have a deep ingrained concept that sunglasses is a beautifying product that you like it, you buy it. It is going to take some time for us to educate that sunglasses is not a mere accessories but the ‘sunscreen’ to protect the delicate skin around the eye and our eyes themselves too.
What excites you most about your industry?
I love that I have the room to learn and innovate creatively.
What is your vision / personal motto?
Always chin up, poised and smile. There is always light at the end of the tunnel!
Do you have any word of advice for other ladies who are starting their business / starting to pursue their dream?
Know the industry you want to enter and study your competitors and trends. It is a never-ending learning journey. Read and network.
How do you think you can help ladies to feel confident and empowered?
We promote the notion of ‘Feel Good, Look Good’ – offering the omph effect that people’s head will turn twice when you walk past.
What have you learnt recently that you hope the other ladies can take back?
Always keep trying and never give up when a door closed upon you, there is always a way to find an opened window of opportunity.
What is one thing you are grateful for?
I am grateful that I have a solid support from my family, shareholders and close circle of friends.
What do you do in your free time as self care? How do you unwind?
I love to exercise and meditate in the morning after I wake up – drives positive vibes and energy to start the day. I read management, self-motivational, fashion articles.
Music is always the food to my soul – I enjoy different music for different mood.
Let us know more about what you do!
Lenicc was set up to style and educate ladies to fuse their daily lifestyle wardrobe with the personalisation of their sunglasses. Our main mission is to be a point of eye care educational source for ladies who want to know more about how to style with sunglasses with their ensemble for different occasion and find out more on how to protect the eyes from (retina degeneration, skin cancer, delay creation of cataracts). To date, we have tested out the analytics for one of our educational feed on Instagram and it looked promising as the younger ladies (25-34 years old) are interested to know more about how the harmful sunrays are going to affect the eyes long term. We were invited to be part of Takashimaya’s event hall pop-up brand in Jan 2020 before the potent COVID-19 took centre-stage.
