Year over year, Barbie globally has honoured local role models whom inspire the next generation of girls to pursue their dreams and inspire their limitless potential.
This year, Barbie is inspiring girls to pursue their dreams in the field of sports and reminding them they can be anything by introducing Barbie® Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Doll Assortment and honouring sports role models for their achievements.
In Singapore in conjunction with International Women’s Day, Barbie celebrates three female athletes who have brought Singapore pride through their athletic achievements to spur inspiration in young aspiring female athletes. Each athlete shares their words of inspiration aimed to inspire both girls and boys and to promote sports in the country.
The three athletes in Singapore that will be honoured are:

Commencing June 2020, fans can take joy as Barbie brings to life the first-ever Southeast Asia “Barbie Sports Arena”! There will be sports-centric activations for kids to immerse themselves in the experience of being a real athlete. Fans can also look forward to the “Barbie Sports Championship” slated for Q3/Q4 2020 where kids are able to participate in the qualifying rounds across the region. Winners will be able to compete in the Southeast Asia Grand Finals and represent their home country! On 18 February 2020, Mattel, Inc. revealed the Barbie® Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 collection. This is the first products collection across brands to celebrate the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Mattel collaborated with the IOC and Tokyo 2020 to create licensed toy products, as part of a new licensing agreement and in line with the IOC Global Licensing Strategy. This international product line, rolling out this spring, highlights inclusivity and innovation, with toys reflecting the five new sports added to the Olympic program in Tokyo – baseball and softball, sport climbing, karate, skateboarding and surfing – all to inspire a new generation of athletes and fans around the world. In addition to the five Barbie® Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 dolls, Barbie is introducing new sports items into the line including characters as seen on Barbie Adventures Season 2 such as Barbie as a swimmer, Chelsea as a soccer player, Stacie as a basketball player up to Skipper as a surfer!
The Barbie® Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and sports toy range will be made available from mid-2020 at all leading toy and departmental stores nationwide.
