It can be annoying and tiring to constantly deal with hair that grows out every couple of weeks. Shaving, plucking and waxing requires time and effort. Yet many still prefer to have smooth, hairless skin so we are left with no options but to wake up earlier or sleep later, or have an extended time in the shower. Such methods still give us that uncomfortable prickle. My suggestion is to look for a permanent solution for our unwanted hair woes, and laser hair removal can be the best service for us.

The high-tech method uses light to destroy the follicle, leaving us with fuzz-free skin. I had considered investing in a SHR (Super Hair Removal) treatment because it is simply more convenient and while having my hair removed, I noticed that my skin became tighter as well as fairer. I love how I do not need to spend extra cash on whitening treatment/ products!

In this article, I have listed somethings that I had learned from laser treatments. I hope this sharing helps!

1. Laser hair removal is not as scary.

Any service with the word “laser” may sound really intimidating, but it’s not scary at all. The energy from the laser is picked up by the pigment in the hair follicle, causing destruction to the root. This would mean that hair growth minimises, giving us smoother and hairless skin because once the root is destroyed, it cannot produce more hair. We can apply laser hair removal on any body part we wish to remove hair from, however, it is especially effective on the bikini, underarms, upper lip and chin areas.

2. Tweezing and waxing are big no-no’s during the treatment.

Tweezing and waxing are methods that would remove the entire hair follicle and this can actually act as a hindrance in effectively targeting the hair follicles during SHR treatments. It is essential to completely stop tweezing and waxing at least 6 weeks prior to your next scheduled appointment. I know it can be extremely tempting to do so, but I promise you that it will all be worth it!

3. Go for at least 6 to 8 treatments.

Every human body is different, we all know that. Therefore the total number of sessions to see real results would vary with each individual. Laser hair removal works when the hair is in its active growth rate. With different growth rates at different parts of the body, it could take longer or shorter depending on which area you are treating. While it is possible to notice tangible results after the first session, it usually still takes at least three to four sessions to really see a difference. Base on the average, it would take about 6 to 8 treatments before the hair stops growing. It is therefore important to attend every session of treatment. If you really want your treatment to be effective, listen to your practitioner as they know best. Don’t worry even if you’re on your period. It is very important to stay consistent with treatments.

4. Treatments should not be painful.

SHR is probably the most painless hair removal option to date. When I was on the treatment, all I felt was a cold sensation and that was all! I love the fact that no numbing cream was needed for this treatment. Miracle Sally has one of the best treatment devices and skill sets that made the treatment really comfortable! Even the gel used before the treatment also contains essential oils that make the skin moisturised during the treatment!

5. Sunscreen (SPF) has be your BFF.

It is extremely important to know that immediately after your session, avoidance to sun exposure is advisable and the use of a sunscreen has to become a habit. Our skin will be especially sensitive after the treatment so we need to protect it as much as possible. I stayed away from the sun even before my treatment as well. The skin will be too dry for the treatment if I had a sunburn and this would not make the SHR treatment effective.  Having a tan can increase your risk of adverse reactions (burns), since the laser may confuse the pigment in your skin for your hair’s root.

6. SHR is value for money.

The price you pay per session of SHR can vary from provider to provider, but it mainly depends on the body part you’re removing hair from. Considering multiple sessions are often needed to fully stop hair growth, it is still an affordable treatment in the long run. Imagine using razors or heading to the salon for a wax for the rest of your life, laser hair removal is definitely more valued for money. Go for packages if they provided do offer as it will be much cheaper than buying just one session at a time.
