Believe in the power of community. On some days when you feel big goals are impossible, or when you feel like giving up, you need to lean on your like-minded community. You can even “borrow” motivation, and in turn “return” with your own inspiring stories to pay it forward.
In this special column called the “TLC x Fempreneurs Series”, we will be featuring inspiring Female Entrepreneurs (Fempreneurs) in short. You will be able to have a sneak peek at their mindsets and their daily habits.
Meet Jesq Lee (Jogalove SG)
Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi! I am Jesq, Founder of Jogalove SG. Jogalove SG is a wellness studio for anyone who has a passion to try out different alternative healing and exercises. I started yoga private lessons from a Master who was from India. After learning from her, I realized that yoga is not about whether you can do the poses. In fact, it is about your attitude, your alignment, your awareness, and your state of mind during the practice. Since then, I started to develope a passion for yoga practice.
With this passion and love for Yoga, I went for various certification courses. I am now equipped with 5 certifications including Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, Sound Therapy, Rehab Therapy, and Reiki Therapy. I have accumulated more than 1,500 hours of teaching in the last 3 years!
What got you started on your business?
Looking back, it is actually very interesting as to how my business began. During a casual talk with one of my students, we shared how we felt for people who are injured but did not have a chance to try out alternative healing or exercises. Alternative healing or exercises can help to strengthen muscles or to even stay positive and happy. And through this little chat, we decided to just open this studio so that can have more people benefit from our studio.
Before you started on your business, what did you do on a full time basis?
I was a Piano teacher before I began the journey of entrepreneurship. As an experienced Business Development Executive in the music industry, I was able to learn the skills of Event Planning, Customer Service, Business Development, Strategic Planning, and Marketing Strategy.
I was also an Instagrammer. Sharing my reviews and opinions on products or services is something that I enjoy. I do not want my community to not miss out on great deals and promotions! I love sharing my yoga, diet tips, and my daily lifestyle!
What were some difficulties you faced in your life and how did you overcome them?
I have been through a few failed relationships, including my own marriage. This lead to a point that I felt nothing is ever going to last. After setting up my yoga studio, I had the chance to meet so many strong ladies who have taught me a lot! By having conversations with them, I learned so many life theories that taught me not to give up. I also learned that we should all can take life easy and just go with the flow. Never put too much pressure and expectations on ourselves. If it’s meant to be, it will be!
Who inspires you?
To be honest, I do not have a specific person. I am inspired by a lot of people! Especially those who have grateful hearts, those who conquer life adventures on a day to day basis as well as those who remain positive during downtimes.
By listening to the people around me has taught me to think more and learn how not to complain or blame anyone. No one leads a smooth and perfect life. We all have ups and downs. But what makes us who we are today is the accumulation of life journeys.
What excites you most about your industry?
I am always excited and happy to see people recover and feel comfy in their own skin! Staying healthy is one thing that I advocate. It is a true blessing to see someone achieve a healthier body through alternative healing and exercises!
What is your vision / personal motto?
My personal vision/ motto is to always be grateful.
Looking into the future, I hope that I could become an inspiration for those who want to learn yoga. In addition, to also use therapy methods to help patients who have issues like stroke, high blood pressure, and other symptoms. Yoga has changed my life and I am extremely grateful. With that, I would like to pay it forward and to help others.
Do you have any word of advice for other ladies who are starting their business / starting to pursue their dream?
Seek advice from people who are in the same industry. It is important for us to direct questions to the right people. To add on, I would like to mention that we should never be shy. Being shy and frightened will not help us in the growth of our business.
How do you think you can help ladies to feel confident and empowered?
I have built a relaxing corner in my yoga studio to allow women to gather and have a chat with one another. We all go through different paths of life and it is important for us to open up to one another and to share with each other how we can help one another. I am always keen to share what I have learned with the ladies around me. By exchanging life experiences, one doesn’t have to make the same mistake that someone has made in the past. Through exchanging our thought processes, we would be able to learn how to handle tough times without actually having to go through difficult days that someone might have gone through before.
What have you learned recently that you hope the other ladies can take back?
Be truthful to yourself. Being honest with yourself is the key to living your life to the fullest. This mindset has allowed me to have a positive attitude even when life hasn’t been easy. By being truthful to myself, I accept what is in front of me and I do my best to find the solution and be logical when facing any problem that is thrown to me.
What is one thing you are grateful for?
I’m grateful to people who have been in my life. Without everyone who has crossed paths with me, I would not be able to be where I am today. The support provided and the positive energy given to me is what I am extremely thankful for.
What do you do in your free time as self-care? How do you unwind?
I enjoy times in the spa as well as getting body massages. These activities allow me to unwind and rest my mind and is the best way of getting some me-time into my busy schedule.
