If you have been on social media lately, you have probably experienced this dilemma: Your friend posts that his/her birthday party is coming up, and requests you to direct your gift as a donation to charity cause. Do you turn up at the party to do your part, or do you ignore what you have seen?
When we were younger, birthdays were special occasions when we gained a full day of attention from your loved ones. We received presents that we may or may not need. On lucky years, we might receive cash to purchase the items on our wish list. As time goes on, some of us might still look forward to this special day while the others might prefer to stay low profile.
However, there are individuals who chose to pass this love those in need. This is truly inspiring and it is a good reminder for us to think beyond ourselves. My face palm moment was during my recent birthday, I requested for a Dyson Airwrap (thank you friends!) instead of thinking of giving back to the society. I want to take this chance to share with you the story of the lady with a big heart – Celestia Faith Chong!
During Celestia’s recent birthday, she organized a yacht party to raise funds to feed 340 residents in Jalan Bukit Merah. The effort from one magnanimous individual and 340 other individuals are blessed in the process – isn’t this commendable? The event might seem just a yacht party with food and music with donors appearing at a birthday celebration, but I know for a fact that there will be tons of preparation needed for a successful event like Celestia’s. I mean, wouldn’t you design email invitations and banners, searching for right decorations, purchasing food and drinks for guests, research on entertainment programs, prepare a beautiful cake and ensure all of your guests are happy? Sounds like a huge effort? There was more to what Celestia had done!
She had to seek sponsorships, liaise with media guests and merchants, settle the RSVPs, practise her own songs which she had performed LIVE, as well as finding volunteers for the distribution on 7 July 2019. Raising funds for charity would also mean that she has to explain the usage of funds to the guests and settle the admin and accounting for these funds. Remarkable indeed! The guests and merchants must have been very touched with her gesture and they are so supportive of her!
Thank you Celestia for setting such a great example to all ladies! This is indeed the ladies’ cue on how the action from one big-hearted individual can create a huge impact on the community!
