I’m Arvelia, Co-founder of one2tuition Learning Space, a proud wife, and a mother to a lovely girl. Education has always been my calling – so much so that my mum once reminded me that since kindergarten, I would “run a classroom” at home, teaching my younger siblings and cousins. Today, I’m grateful that what started as a childhood dream has become my life’s purpose.

As a former MOE scholarship recipient, I know firsthand how tough Singapore’s education system can be. The pressure, the comparisons. It can take a toll. Along the way, I learned how to motivate myself and develop strategies to improve my learning. That experience inspired me to help other children. I wanted to create a safe, supportive space where students can learn without fear, build confidence, and rediscover the joy of learning.

I spent about two years in the corporate world. It was exciting, but deep down I knew I wanted to build something of my own. I chose to step out before I became too comfortable because I believe growth often begins outside of our comfort zones.

At one2tuition, we see every child’s brilliance. We want to create a nurturing, pressure-free space where mistakes are stepping stones, not failures. With engaging methods and personalized guidance, we build confidence, curiosity, and resilience – helping every child grow beyond grades and thrive in school, life, and every challenge ahead.

The children. My daughter and every student I’ve taught remind me daily of how brilliant and unique each child is. They challenge us to keep improving and they inspire me to keep building an environment where they can flourish.

One of the hardest moments was when I was heavily pregnant, just a month before my due date, and our landlord raised the rent by over 50%. It was overwhelming, especially with a difficult pregnancy. My partner and I prepared for the worst, even planning to move our classes fully online. But through faith and persistence, doors opened. We found a new space that had been on our wishlist from the very beginning. Looking back, it was truly God’s grace. What felt like a crisis turned into one of our biggest blessings.

The laughter in class. The sparkle when a child finally understands a concept. The moment parents share that their child has grown more confident not just in grades, but in character. These are the moments that make this journey meaningful.

“You don’t have to try too hard if you’re already doing your best.” My belief is simple: when we sincerely do our best for our students, they can feel it, and that sincerity will always make the difference.

I love exploring new places and good food with my husband. Our date nights are a simple joy. And after exam periods or bootcamps, nothing beats a good massage to reset and recharge.

I believe confidence starts with embracing who you are, not who others expect you to be. Many ladies feel pressured to be “perfect,” but I always remind my students and fellow women: we are born to be awesome, not perfect. Empowerment comes when we see mistakes as growth, celebrate strengths, and trust our unique journey. By cultivating resilience, curiosity, and self-belief, we discover that our intelligence and worth are not measured only by achievements, but by how we rise, adapt, and lead with authenticity.

God’s presence. Through every challenge in building one2tuition, He has shown up at the right time in ways I cannot explain. It’s a reminder that not everything depends on human strength.

Do it. Starting something new will always feel daunting, whether it’s a business or a personal dream. My advice is: don’t wait until you feel “ready,” because perfection doesn’t exist. Instead, focus on progress. Learn from mistakes, adapt quickly, and stay authentic. Challenges will come, but resilience, curiosity, and passion will carry you through.

Believe in yourself and don’t be boxed in by social norms. You don’t need to cook three meals a day to be a good wife. You don’t need to hover over your child 24/7 to be a good mother. You don’t need to hustle nonstop to be a successful businesswoman. You do you. Empowerment is about presence, not perfection. Being fully present in the roles you choose at that moment, that’s what counts.
