Nestled in the heart of Singapore, the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall stands as a tribute to one of the most influential figures in Chinese history, Dr. Sun Yat-sen. This memorial hallf Dr. Sun’s legacy and highlights the historical repository of Singapore in the broader context of the Chinese revolution. This bungalow has been around since 1990s and has now been preserved as a museum.
This storied grounds of the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (SYSNMH) is set to close from 16 September 2024 till 2027 as the National Monument will be undergoing restoration works. To make this temporary closure a memorial event for all, I was invited to immerse in Singapore’s Chinese culture and heritage with the Wan Qing Closing Fest, which includes the signature Wan Qing Mid-Autumn Festival.
An Historical site with Celebrations of Legends and Legacy
Wan Qing Feast took place across two weekends 7-8 September and 14-15 September 2024. I get to experience the Singapore Chinese culture and Traditions through a lineup of performances and hands-on activities! It was pretty mind-blowing with an experience that I never had before! Through the mystery puzzle games, I get to explore this historical site and witness the museum’s artifacts, each of them telling beautiful stories behind. You can find activities happening both indoor and outdoor!
Indoor fun with Mystery Puzzles and Cos-play!
I have never used so much brain power since graduating from school, but this mystery puzzle adventure had my brain cells working hard! Experience the Secretes in the Moon Palace to unravel cryptic clues to ensure the return of Chang’e and her royal entourage to the Moon Palace!
You can also experience dressing up in the beautiful Chinese Tradition wear ‘Hanfu’ (汉服) by Timeless Elegance. There’s a professional photographer to help us capture memories. I feel like I just traveled back in time.
Outdoor fun with Lantern Installation
You can wear your beautiful traditional costumes to take a photo outdoor with the lantern installation! Spot the legendary characters of Moon Goddness Chang’e and the woodcutter Wu Gang with their lovable Jade Rabbits! It is actually the 10th edition of the festive installation and it covers the largest area of SYSNMH. You can practically see it at every corner!
Continuation of SYSNMH’s Offerings
It’s only a temporary closure for SYSNMH! Revamp of its galleries are set to estimate period of two and a half years with the reopening in 2027. SYSNMH will be continuing to provide Singaporeans through offsite programmes and initiatives such as travlling exhibitions, festival events and joint programmes held with partners.
